If you are interested in learning how to work with leather in bookbinding please consider the workshop I will be teaching this summer at North Bennet Street School in Boston. There are some spaces still available in this and some of the many other workshops-- see information and register online at www.nbss.org.
Introduction to Leather Paring
Mon-Fri, Jul 28-Aug 1, 2008, 8:30am-4:30pm
Jeff Altepeter, Instructor
In this workshop the student will learn about the types of leather commonly used in bookbinding. Through demonstrations and extensive hands-on practice we will explore a wide range of tools and techniques used to pare leather (including various knives, the spokeshave, and Scharf-fix paring machine).
We will not execute any complete bindings in this course, focusing instead on a series of exercises meant to prepare the student for future leather bookbinding.
No prior bookbinding experience is needed for this class.
Best, Jeff Altepeter
