We are offering fully vegetable tanned sheepskin skiver at £4.99 per sq ft plus tax and shipping.
Skins are grade 1. Average size 12 sq ft. Shaved to 0.8mm, so good for cases.
Many sheepskin skivers are subjected to various surface finishes, like glazing, which results in a shiny surface or a full pigment finish, which results in a flat featureless leather. Our skins are as nature intended, of good quality being dense though easy to pare. They come in a good range of book colours and are dyed all the way through with no surface finishes of any kind.
Sheepskin has been used in bookbinding for more than 500 years. As Matt T. Roberts and Don Etherington say in Bookbinding and the Conservation of books. A Dictionary of Descriptive Terminology. "Sheepskin is a reasonably durable leather if properly prepared and cared for."
This skiver would make a good choice when considering an economical leather for use in case bindings.
We also sell the full range of Payhembury marbled paper at prices lower than other major suppliers and our UK postal rates are cheap.
Thank you for looking.
